TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Thursday that Tehran supports Russia’s military action in bombarding the terrorist groups’ locations inside Syria.

“Fundamental fight against terrorism as a common threat to regional and international peace and security is a necessity, and serious will and determination and joint international action, based on cooperating with Syria and Iraq, is required to reach this goal,” she said in a statement.

Afkham added that Iran considers Russia’s action a step in line with fight against terrorism in order to settle the current regional crisis.

Russia has started an ongoing bombardment hitting areas held by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant since Wednesday.
